Hedgehog loves his new home. But even before he can set foot
inside, his house is destroyed. No matter how much he cries, yells,
complains, worries, or even feels sorry for himself, Hedgehog is
powerless to change the situation. It isn’t until he learns to
see things differently that Hedgehog turns his obstacle into an
opportunity. Â With its tender, openhearted text and
beautifully rendered illustrations, Hedgehog and the
Log is about acceptance, perseverance, and, most of all,
hope.

Ning has always heard tales of the night spirits that used to
terrorise the little village where he lives. So, each night, he
helps his parents light bright orange lanterns to frighten them
away. Secretly, he wonders if they're really as bad as everyone
says - but is much too shy to ask anyone. But when Ning finds
himself in the forest by night, he meets a creature who introduces
him to the spirits' secret world and he discovers that all is not
as it seems...A beautiful and magical story about confronting
fears, confidence and a little boy who finds his voice.
A head-to-toe exploration of Chinese dress through sumptuous,
detailed photography of some of the most fascinating historic and
contemporary pieces in the V&A’s outstanding collection.
Chinese Dress in Detail reveals the beauty and variety of Chinese
dress for women, men and children, both historically and
geographically, showcasing the intricacy of decorative embroidery
and rich use of materials and weaving and dyeing techniques. The
reader is granted a unique opportunity to examine historical
clothing that is often too fragile to display, from quivering hair
ornaments, stunning silk jackets and coats, festive robes and
pleated skirts, to pieces embellished with rare materials such as
peacock-feather threads or created through unique craft skills, as
well as handpicked contemporary designs. A general introduction
provides an essential overview of the history of Chinese dress,
plotting key developments in style, design and mode of dress, and
the traditional importance of clothing as social signifier,
followed by eight thematic chapters that examine Chinese dress in
exquisite detail from head to toe. Each garment is accompanied by a
short text and detail photography; front-and-back line drawings are
provided for key items. An extraordinary exploration of the
splendour and complexity of Chinese garments and accessories,
Chinese Dress in Detail will delight all followers of fashion,
costume and textiles.
In an international political economy characterised both by
constancy and change, this study, first published in 1996, links
together one seemingly incongruous continuity in international
trade relations with an increasingly dramatic development in the
economies of industrial countries. On the one hand, industrialised
countries have become progressively dependent upon one another. On
the other hand, the liberal international trade regime has yet to
falter. These two points are tied together by seeking to explain
the maintenance of liberal trade relations in terms of the mutual
economic dependence of industrial countries. In particular, the
study examines what may be a fundamental constraint on trade
protectionism today: the reliance of industrialised countries on
external trade relations, and especially on markets within the
industrial world.

How are different groups of people such as sex workers, migrant
workers, rural cadres and homosexuals represented in China's media?
How accurately do representations created by the media reflect the
lived experiences of Chinese people? Do Chinese people accept the
representations and messages disseminated by the media? Can they
use the media to portray their own interests? How are media
practices in China changing? Have new technologies and increased
access to international media opened up new spaces for struggle in
China? The essays in this volume address these questions by using a
combination of ethnography and textual analysis and by exploring
representation in and usage of a range of media including instant
messaging, the internet, television, films, magazines and
newspapers. The essays highlight highlights the richness,
diversity, and sometimes contradictory tendencies of the meanings
and consequences of media representations in China. The volume
cautions against approaches that take the representations created
by the media in China at face value and against oversimplified
assumptions about the motivations and agency of players in the
complex struggles that occur between the media, the Chinese state,
and Chinese citizens.
To discover what happened to his long-lost mother, unassuming
teenager Nilay Rao must step into a new world, the Massively
Multiplayer World of Ghosts. Coasting through life without ever
spending much effort or committing to anything has made many people
think less of Nilay Rao. The teenager is relatively unassuming, as
he's not the most popular student, nor the hardest working. The
kids call him "Nil," suggesting that he's a loser. But he has
another name, the "biggest cheat," which he's earned from using
cheat codes and hacks in everything from games to grades. But that
all will change when Nilay receives a mysterious device from his
long-lost mother, Dia. Curious about the device, Nilay unwittingly
creates his own "video game" avatar that he names Vyper Neo, which
causes him more stress than he could imagine. The little orange
character has his own personality and gets Nilay and his father
into all sorts of trouble. That's not all-the device itself belongs
to a super-secret group of people who can summon similar video game
avatars called Ghosts to battle over money, territory, and power.
Now that Nilay has it, he has officially become a "player" like
them who can summon his own Ghost in Vyper Neo-and that's made
other players very angry. Can this lackluster teenager survive long
enough to learn where his mother is and why she sent this device?
Vyper Neo and his only human buddy, Chess, have his back, but
taking on this massive new world won't be easy. Like it or not,
Nilay is going to have to play this game to win! The Massively
Multiplayer World of Ghosts is rated T for Teen, recommended for
ages 13 and up. Saturday AM, the world's most diverse

to administrators interested in redesigning ILL and DD, but also to

Tang Shuxiu and her husband are on an 800-mile train journey from
Beijing to Shifang, where they believe their only child has
perished in a recent earthquake. Three days after the event, Tang
is too dehydrated to cry. Liu Ting becomes a national hero when he
brings his mother to college, a celebration of filial piety in a
nation that now legally compels adult children to visit their
elderly parents. Tian Qingeng and his parents are deeply in debt.
They have bought an apartment they hope will improve his
eligibility in a nation that has 30 million bachelors, or 'bare
branches'. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mei Fong has spent
eight years documenting the effects of the one-child policy across
all of Chinese society. In this critically acclaimed account, she
weaves together personal stories, history and politics to produce
an extraordinary, evocative investigation into how the policy has
changed China and why the repercussions will be felt across the
world for decades to come.
The Sustainable Development Goal 3 seeks to ensure health and
well-being for all at every stage of life. This book discusses how
to strengthen our healthcare systems and ensure sustainable
community healthcare delivery by using systems thinking, an
approach to understanding complex interactions of individual system
elements in nature. Financing and manpower planning are integral
processes to achieve health for all in the world. Adopting the
Framework for Action of the World Health Organization for
Strengthening Health Systems to Improve Health Outcomes, this book
reviews and discusses, illustrated by case examples, the building
blocks of healthcare systems, namely financing, human resources,
management strategies and leadership and governance in the context
of accessibility, coverage, quality and safety of community health
services to achieve selected targets in SDG 3 in the context of
global health. This book will be of interest to those who are
researching sustainable healthcare systems, as well as policymakers
and healthcare professionals.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to develop a better and
sustainable future for the world, and the goals are part of an
action plan to address poverty, hunger, health, gender equity and
various pressing world issues. One of these goals looks at health
and wellness. Ageing populations have become a crucial issue
worldwide, and this short monograph explores ageing and how the
consequences of an ageing population may affect our healthcare
system through a case study on Hong Kong’s population. The book
looks at several critical health issues related to ageing. The
elderly, particularly those with low socio-economic status, rely
more on acute-centric care rather than primary care. The book
suggests that secondary care service may only be effective to a
limited extent as a healthcare measure and an optimum healthcare
system should be one that focuses on primary care. The authors put
forth a compelling argument for disease prevention and screening
schemes and explain how they are more cost-effective and beneficial
to society and the system. This thoughtful book will provide
beneficial insights into the relationship of ageing and Sustainable
Development Goals in the context of health and wellness for
policymakers and healthcare professionals. The Open Access version
